In 1981, while traveling through India by train, Ed spotted an extensive ganja field rushing past his window. Determined to see it up close, he circled back — and with the cooperation of Indian government officials, was invited to visit and photograph a farm that was regulated and taxed by the state.

Less than five years later, that legal framework disappeared.

Today, Ganja in India stands as both a rare photographic archive and part of Ed Rosenthal’s ongoing effort to support renewed dialogue around cannabis legalization in India.
